Advanced Trade is the order-book side of Coinbase, and it is not the same product as the simple buy button on the same account. Simple trades pay a spread. It reads that product's real constraints from Coinbase rather than assuming: BTC-USD, for instance, publishes a one-dollar minimum quote size and eight-decimal base increments, and other products differ. It prefers resting maker orders where the strategy allows, because the fee difference is not a rounding error.

The research layer reads the Advanced Trade tape for your product: print size and frequency, dollar volume against a normal day, resting depth either side of the touch, and recent hours against the longer trend. Your actual maker and taker cost from your own Coinbase fee tier goes into the arithmetic rather than a headline rate.
